Fire risk assessment means assessing the risk associated with fire occurrence causing damage to life and property. There is course provided by the society of fire protection engineers to improve the understanding of fire risk assessment and how it can be used to save lives of people and their hard earned money’s capital. This course has been developed keeping fire service, fire prevention officers, the students and engineers in mind.

During the course one learns how to develop new designs to mitigate the fire risk in a building and evaluate the risk involved and take appropriate actions accordingly.
After the course one becomes accountable to find out the project’s scope and goals, setting risk acceptability thresholds, developing fire scenarios and clusters, data for risk analysis, risk estimation, uncertainty analysis, risk evaluation and documentation.

If not possible to join, one can always make his own fire risk assessment project. First identify the fire hazards associated in the area, evacuate the people at risk in the building, evaluate the total risk, reduce the risks from these hazards to an acceptable level by identifying the action required to ensure the safety of the people in the premises if fire break outs. Everybody should know how to assess fire in case it happens as prevention is better than cure.
