Pot Pullers

posted by admin in Shopping

Pot Pullers or haulers are a crucial part of commercial fishing equipment. A pot or a trap is set for catching maritime animals like fish, crabs, prawns, lobsters and other similar species. The pot is then pulled out of the waters using pot pullers. These are fitted with a pair of pulleys and a motor which together perform the task of hauling the trap with the help of a rope connecting the pot and the motor.

This device may be of three basic types depending on its working, namely:

1. Hydraulic Pot Pullers

These haulers are the most efficient as far as pulling heavy loads are concerned. They come fitted with a hydraulic motor which basically converts hydraulic pressure into torque thereby causing rotations. Hydraulic haulers are best suited when the pot to be pulled out is extremely heavy.

2. Electrical Pot Pullers

Electrically operated pot pullers use an electric motor. These are used for mediocre loads and cannot handle very heavy pots. Electrical motors also have the disadvantage of being prone to sparks and are hence not very safe. However they come with the reward of occupying lesser space and being less noisy.

3. Mechanical Pot Pullers

Mechanical pot haulers are the least efficient of the lot and can be used only if the pot is extremely light.

To conclude, the correct choice for a pot puller depends only on the weight of the pot or load which needs to be pulled out of the water.
